Toronto FC defender Omar Gonzalez has earned himself a spot on MLS’s Week 29 Team of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.
The decision to include Gonzalez comes following a 1-1 draw with LAFC — that would’ve been a clean sheet on the road for the Reds had it not been for a reckless last-minute challenge from centre-back partner Chris Mavinga — where the 31-year-old led the team in clearances (3) and blocked shots (3).
Known for his strong and steady play, Gonzalez has received rave reviews since his arrival to Toronto on June 3, as the U.S. International has provided some much needed stability at the back for the Reds. With the draw, Toronto moved to 6-1-5 — only one loss — with Gonzalez in the lineup.
Unbeaten in their last eight MLS matches, this is the third week in-a-row that a member of Toronto FC has made the team after captain Michael Bradley and coach Greg Vanney received the honours last week.
