TORONTO, Canada—Major League Soccer announced on Thursday that Toronto FC midfielder Alejandro Pozuelo has been named the recipient of the league’s September Player of the Month award.

Pozuelo finds himself among some exclusive company, joining Sebastian Giovinco (2x, 2015) as the only Toronto FC players to ever earn the accolade.
The Spanish midfielder scored four goals and added two assists across six games in the month of September, leading the Reds to wins over New York City FC and Columbus Crew SC. In 14 matches, Pozuelo has played a role in 15 (63.3 per cent) of all Toronto FC goals this season, recording six goals and nine assists in 2020.
Earlier this season, Pozuelo was named to the MLS Team of the Week for Weeks 1 and 2 during the MLS is Back Tournament as well as Weeks 6 and 7.
The MLS Player of the Month is voted upon by a panel of select national media members in a process conducted by MLS Communications. The announcement comes on the heels of fellow teammate Richie Laryea being named the Week 13 Player of the Week.
Toronto FC, currently tied for second overall in MLS, are 4-0-1 in their last five matches but will be tested their next time out: Saturday against the team they’re tied with in standings, the Philadelphia Union.
