The MLS power rankings released early Tuesday morning showed us what we’ve known since 2016: the Seattle Sounders and Toronto FC are the two best teams in the MLS.

The rankings, which are released weekly, are indicative of the strength that either team from last year’s final have shown after 15 weeks of this MLS season.

Toronto FC climbs one spot higher into second place. With three wins in a row that featured some brilliant attacking football, there surely can’t be any argument to it. Adding to the performance is Rentschler Field playing Brass Bonanza after every TFC goal, which surely adds a boost to the rankings. no?

TFC is even with Columbus on the Supporters Shield standings with 31 points. Their form of late has even seen them take down the Crew a little over a week ago. That match displayed one half of football which could be seen as Toronto FCs best performance of the season, as they overcame a 1-nil deficit to crush their eastern conference rivals and claim the precious three points.

Ahead of TFC is their old enemy, the Seattle Sounders in first place. Having faced each other in three of the last four MLS Cup Finals, the two sides are no strangers to one another.

The Sounders have only lost two out of their nine matches since the MLS is Back tournament, with both losses came at the hands of the Portland Timbers, the runners up of the 2019 MLS Cup.

If this week’s power rankings are indicative of anything, it’s that we may be foreshadowing the continuation of one of the MLS’ best rivalries.

Will we see Toronto FC vs Seattle part 4 in the 2020 MLS Final?
