TORONTO, Canada—The 2020 end-of-season Major League Soccer awards keep rolling in and a trio of Reds once again find themselves in contention for two major categories.
Up first, Toronto FC first-choice goalkeeper Quentin Westberg has been nominated for the Save of the Season after a terrific double-save in a 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Union on Oct 3. We’re not sure what’s better: the first save of the second?
Defender Richie Laryea’s solo effort against the Columbus Crew SC in a 3-1 win has also been nominated for MLS Goal of the Year. In what has been another breakout 2020 campaign, It feels like the speedy fullback could have had one or two others that could’ve been up for the award.
And last, but certainly not least, Pablo Piatti’s wonderstrike against Vancouver Whitecaps FC, in his BMO Field debut no less, has also been nominated for MLS Goal of the Year. We’ve seen the Reds’ No. 7 connect on a few of these hits from outside the box, but perhaps none sweeter than Piatti’s first MLS goal.
