TORONTO, Canada—Major League Soccer announced Friday that Toronto FC midfielder Alejandro Pozuelo has been named to 2020 MLS Best XI.
After becoming the fifth Toronto FC player to earn the accolade in his first year in the league last season, Pozuelo now becomes just the third in club history to be named to the MLS Best XI on more than one occasion joining Dwayne De Rosario (2009, 2010) and Sebastian Giovinco (2015, 2016, 2017).
Pozuelo became the only player in franchise history to start every match this season, appearing in 24 games in all competitions, recording a league-best 19 goals+assists. He also led MLS in chances created (70) and game winning goals (5) en route to being named to the league’s Player of the Month for September and Player of the Week five times in 2020.
The Spaniard will have the opportunity to further add to his own personal trophy case later this month, as the TFC designated player is a front runner for the league’s Landon Donovan Most Valuable Player award.
