6ix on a Wave: Everything’s fine?

Are Toronto FC fine? Was the first game just a blip, and they’re coming back angry, or do you think that the tone has been set for The Reds’ trip to Orlando?

Here I sit on my cushy couch, less than a half-over after we wrapped Episode 2 of the weekly WTR x Footy Talks panel show. Really enjoying these. It’s nice to move from the living room to the man-den and back again. Get those steps in.

This week featured 100 per cent more ring light, Onyx (because TFC need #OnyxPower), Maria Papadakis talking about how she ended up with maybe the best job in the world, and three die-hard Reds’ fans clearly chuffed to have an actual game to discuss.

I did, however, promise to quote Michael Leach on the show when we talked about the upcoming 401 Derby*. And then completely forgot, despite having the tweet up on my laptop, ready to go, albeit hidden behind Zoom windows. What can I say? Life comes at you fast.

There’s red in my ledger though, so let’s clear it out and get the ball rolling on this week’s chat.

I wish I had Michael’s positivity. I wish I could take more comfort in slow starts from Atlanta, LAFC, and Seattle. I wish, when looking ahead to Thursday’s tie, I saw in my mind’s eye the Montreal Impact of game one of the Mickey Mouse Cup, not the side that took away our Canadian Championship last season, or a flash of Dominic Oduro scoring a worldy.

We’re all massively disappointed by yesterday’s late collapse. We’re all still reeling from Sunday’s parade of horrors. Our collective sleep schedules are in flux, our emotions bubbling over. I just spent an hour discussing as much.

At least the Mickey Mouse Cup has settled into some kind of rhythm. I take some comfort in the fact that inertia will paper over the cracks so omnipresent in week one.

Lots of carryover from the live show, but I think this week’s discussion question wrote itself yesterday?

Are Toronto FC fine? Was the first game just a blip, and they’re coming back angry, or do you think that the tone has been set for our trip to Orlando?
