Toronto FC II announced on Monday that they have signed 20-year-old midfielder Nicolas Ovalle to a USL contract.

Ovalle is joining The Young Reds from Chilean club Unión Española and has represented Chile at the youth level. He was on the preliminary roster for the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017.

His last name will be familiar to TFC II fans as his older brother Adolfo, better known as "Fito", was with the club last season, regularly captaining the side in their maiden USL League One campaign.

Ovalle is the latest signing for Toronto FC II as they approach the start of their 2020 season.

The Young Reds have been busy over the last week, re-signing midfielders Matthew Srbely and Antonio Carlini, defender Themi Antonoglou, while also striking a deal with 2020 MLS SuperDraft pick Nyal Higgins. 2019 standout goalkeeper Kevin Silva, meanwhile, was promoted to the Toronto FC first team on Friday.

Starting on July 18, USL League One will begin a 20-game schedule played over 15 weeks.

Each club will play an assigned “regional rival” four times – twice home and twice away – and seven of the other eight clubs, once home and once away. Each club will have one team that they won’t play against in the 2020 regular season as well. Toronto FC II’s regional final is New England Revolution II, and the team they won’t play is Greenville Triumph SC.
