According to The Athletic’s Joshua Kloke, TFC is bound for Montreal and will face their 401 Derby rivals as per originally scheduled.
Per Toronto FC spokesperson, game vs Montreal tonight is on as scheduled. Team will fly to Montreal today. No media availability scheduled beforehand. #TFCLive— Joshua Kloke (@joshuakloke) August 28, 2020
For what it’s worth, Waking the Red has also received word that the Impact are planning to play as scheduled.
After Orlando City and Nashville SC somewhat controversially opted to continue on with their Wednesday night game, the players across the league have chosen to sit out all five of the MLS games scheduled since.
Many assumed the Reds’ fixture to start the weekend would likely be postponed, particularly with some of their own as vocal as any regarding the ongoing protests demonstrated by the players.
What is happening in the world is much bigger than the game we play.— Mark Delgado (@MarkyDelgado) August 27, 2020
We need change.
We need justice.
We need action.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
Proud of sports tonight and all of my guys in MLS. ✊— Jozy Altidore (@JozyAltidore) August 27, 2020
As the only game on the MLS schedule for tonight, all eyes across the league will be on Toronto and Montreal. Whether the players opt to play or not, expect to see some demonstration of support for the ongoing battle against systemic racism.
We'll support the players should they choose to play tonight. It is their choice. We know there are different initiatives in the works. They will have their say, one way or another. #tfclive https://t.co/vG599pbRwk— TFC BIPOC Fan Coalition (@tfcbipocfans) August 28, 2020
As this situation unfolds and the official word on tonight’s match is confirmed by the clubs, we will keep you updated.
