ST.JOHN’S, Canada— Toronto FC and the Montreal Impact appear set to square off Friday evening despite some doubts over the match going ahead due to ongoing protests across the sporting world.

According to The Athletic’s Joshua Kloke, TFC is bound for Montreal and will face their 401 Derby rivals as per originally scheduled.

For what it’s worth, Waking the Red has also received word that the Impact are planning to play as scheduled.

After Orlando City and Nashville SC somewhat controversially opted to continue on with their Wednesday night game, the players across the league have chosen to sit out all five of the MLS games scheduled since.

Many assumed the Reds’ fixture to start the weekend would likely be postponed, particularly with some of their own as vocal as any regarding the ongoing protests demonstrated by the players.

As the only game on the MLS schedule for tonight, all eyes across the league will be on Toronto and Montreal. Whether the players opt to play or not, expect to see some demonstration of support for the ongoing battle against systemic racism.

As this situation unfolds and the official word on tonight’s match is confirmed by the clubs, we will keep you updated.
