Canadians to compete in every UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-final match for first time

It doesn’t matter what game you choose to watch Wednesday afternoon—you’ll still have a Canadian to support.

TORONTO, Canada—Canada Soccer is on a wave.

For the first time in history, at least one Canadian will take part in all four of the upcoming UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-final matches Wednesday afternoon.

In total, six Canadians will be kicking off their 2020-21 UEFA Champions League quarter-finals with five different European teams: Four-time winner Kadeisha Buchanan with Olympique Lyonnais, Jordyn Huitema and Ashley Lawrence with Paris Saint-Germain FC, Janine Beckie with Manchester City FC, Jessie Fleming with Chelsea FC, and Stephanie Labbé with FC Rosengård.

The biggest match of the quarter-final may just be reigning Canadian Player of the Year Buchanan and Olympique Lyonnais defending their UEFA Champions League title against 2019 Canadian Player of the Year Lawrence and Huitema’s Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of the quarter-finals.

BeIN Sports Canada will carry that match with kickoff slated for 1 pm ET.

While Buchanan has won four UEFA Women’s Champions League titles with Olympique Lyonnais, Lawrence is the only other Canadian to reach the Final back in 2016-17 (against Lyon).

Beckie’s Manchester City will take on FC Barcelona bright and early here in Canada at 7 am ET, while Fleming’s Chelsea play Wolfsburg at 12:00 pm ET. The last quarter-final match of the day will be Labbé’s FC Rosengård taking on Bayern Munich at 2 pm ET.
