TORONTO, Canada—How fortunate are Toronto FC to have Richie Laryea?
On Thursday evening, the TFC fullback picked up right where he left off last season, scoring his first career international goal for Canada, putting them up 3-0.

Following the goal, Laryea would take a knee in protest against racial injustice and social inequality, in a similar fashion as TFC teammate Ayo Akinola after his first with the US back in Decemeber.
Laryea started as a right-back, but found himself in multiple positions throughout the evening, similar to the way he was deployed by Greg Vanney at times for Toronto FC.
He would be subbed off in the 69th minute as Canada led 4-1.
Cyle Larin scored the other three goals for Canada—all assisted by Alphonso Davies.
In 2020, Laryea appeared in 20 matches for Toronto FC last season, scoring four times and adding four assists. He’d be named to the MLS Team of the Week on four different occasions.
You have to wonder, how long before Laryea starts to attract some serious European interest?
