TORONTO, Canada—Toronto FC’s newest signing Yeferson Soteldo touched down in Orlando earlier this week to undergo quarantine protocol after arriving from Brazil.
The 23-year-old winger will be a welcome addition to the squad, a TFC side that’s in need of a bit of a boost after losing 3-1 to Cruz Azul earlier this week on the back of two disappointing league results to Canadian rivals CF Montreal and the Vancouver Whitecaps.
As for when Soteldo is expected to join Toronto FC, there’s a possibility that the Reds’ third designated player will be available for next week’s return leg vs. Cruz Azul down in Mexico City at the Azteca, according to TFC head coach Chris Armas.
“We’re excited for Yeferson to join us,” said Armas following Tuesday night’s defeat. “He’s a dynamic attacker, he’s going to really help us on the attacking end, and he brings a lot of quality. For a fairly young guy, he’s got some big experiences and he’s very dynamic. He plays with a lot of passion and we think he’s a winner, so that’s going to be a nice injection into our team.
“We’re still working through when he can participate, there’s a chance it’s Cruz Azul, but we’re not sure. There’s just logistical hurdles that we have to get through before he can join us, but we’re excited for sure—and so he is he. We’ll welcome him as soon as we can.”
If the club’s new No. 30 isn’t available for Tuesday’s CCL match, he’ll more than likely make his TFC debut on May 8 vs. the New York Red Bulls.
Soteldo, who should be in match shape having left his former club Santos FC midseason, signed a multiyear contract through 2025. For fans needing a bit of a ‘pick-me-up,’ here’s to hoping his spark and flair brings that.
