TORONTO, Canada—After their victory against League1 Ontario side Master’s Futbol Academy over the weekend, York United of the Canadian Premier League have earned themselves a date with Toronto FC in the quarter-finals of the 2021 Canadian Championship.

The two southern Ontario-based clubs will battle it out on Wednesday Sept. 22, as York United, formerly known as York9 FC, will take a short trip down south to BMO Field for the one-legged affair. Kickoff time is still to be determined.

York earned their berth in the quarter-final following an emphatic 5-0 victory over Master’s on Saturday at York Lions Stadium.

Toronto FC, meanwhile, automatically earned their place in the quarter-finals as a finalist of the 2020 Canadian Championship, which by the way, has still yet to be played and a date has yet to be officially set. Canada Soccer has said that match, between Toronto FC and Forge FC, will be played before July 2022 in front of fans at Tim Horton’s Field in Hamilton, Ontario.

York are currently fifth place out of eight teams in the Canadian Premier League table, while Toronto FC find themselves in dead last in Major League Soccer.

On the other side of the bracket, Forge and Valour FC will square off, as well as HFX Wanderers FC and CF Montreal. Cavalry FC, meanwhile, awaits the winner of Vancouver Whitecaps and Pacific FC, a match which will take place Thursday evening.
