It was a battle out there, but Toronto FC got the result they needed. The Reds will take a pair of away goals and a lead back to BMO Field after defeating the New York Red Bulls 2-1 in the first leg of their Eastern Conference semi-final.
Sebastian Giovinco scored the winner - from a free-kick, again - after Daniel Royer had netted from the penalty spot to cancel out Victor Vazquez’s opening strike.
Toronto had to stand tall through a couple of periods of pressure, with Alex Bono turning in one of his best performances of the season and Nick Hagglund playing like he had never been away after coming on for the injured Drew Moor.
What did you think of Toronto’s players on the night? Upvote the performances you liked, downvote those you didn’t and feel free to ignore any you didn’t feel strongly about in our poll below. We’ll tally up the votes and announce a man of the match in a couple of days.
