Toronto FC’s playoff games last season were big enough TV events to convince Bell Media to test a little more exposure for MLS in 2017.
The league announced on Thursday that seven games from March through to May will be aired on CTV - Canada’s most-watched network - this season, including three Reds matches. For now, it is unclear if that first run could lead to more matches being moved over from TSN later in the campaign or if this initiative is solely designed to generate some early-season interest.
Toronto’s visit to the Vancouver Whitecaps on March 18 will be the first game of the season to air on CTV, with all of the games broadcast on that channel taking place on Saturday afternoons. The MLS Cup final rematch against the Seattle Sounders follows on May 6 before TFC’s home game against Minnesota United a week later on May 13.
In between the Whitecaps and Sounders games, four other matches involving Vancouver and the Montreal Impact will be broadcast, including the meeting between those two clubs on April 29.
The complete schedule - including kick-off times for all games to be shown on CTV, TSN or TVA Sports this season - is available here. TSN will broadcast every TFC match.
