Small rant: There was one reporter at #TFC practice today. One. Honestly, the sports media in Toronto has to get its act together.— John Molinaro (@JohnMolinaro) May 29, 2017
I wholeheartedly agree with John and continue to be as frustrated as I’m sure many of you are. That’s not to attack the reporters and bloggers who currently cover the club - every single one I have met during my first season in the press box at BMO Field seems to genuinely relish covering Toronto FC and many wish they had the time and resources to do more. More deserving of criticism are the companies that are not willing to allow that to happen because their audience for TFC is currently small and they do not have the ambition to build it.
I could rant about that for a while, but instead I want to use the topic as an opportunity to open the floor to our readers. I’m asking you this: How do you think coverage of Toronto FC can improve, and how can we play a part in that?
What do you like to read or consume? What aren’t you a fan of? What do you feel is currently missing from the conversation?
How about Waking the Red? What do you think we do well and what do you think we do badly? How would you like to see us grow and improve?
Any thoughts you have that are remotely related to the current state of the media and TFC, I want to hear them and make our site better for you. Write away to your heart’s content in the comments section or, if you’d rather reach us privately, drop an email to email@example.com. You can also tweet us @WakingtheRed.
I’ve turned the usual 24-hour probation period for new members off, so if you haven’t signed up to the site yet you can do so today and post straight away. Let us know!
