A committed couch potato’s view of a tight win over MLS’ form team.

The Good

Nine points from three straight home games… Sebastian Giovinco playing with purpose and passion, rather than frustration… Kaka’s teeth. You could see them gleaming from Lakeshore Blvd… Raheem Edwards continuing to amaze with his great footwork and dangerous passes into the box… Jozy Altidore’s long ball to Steven Beitashour that led to Toronto’s second goal… Beitashour nutmegging Donny Toia in the second half… Alex Bono’s extra effort to rob Cyle Larin of a sure goal - twice…TSN’s halftime show. The player interviews are a nice touch, and need to continue. Glad that TSN is reading our column… the return of the Steven CaldwellDrew Moor” drinking game. I was able to take two sips… Greg Vanney’s 100th game as coach. That’s not an easy feat. Congratulations… the sunlight washing over the west stand at the beginning of the match… Victor Vazquez’s pass that sprung Altidore in the 25th minute… Vanney subbing off Vazquez in the 65th minute. The benefits of that move should be evident on Saturday… Kristian Jack’s candid interview with Larin at the end of the game. KJ could have chosen a Red for a sappy post-match gush-fest, but he took the more difficult road and deserves credit for that. Given the raw emotions of sport, that interview could have turned ugly.

The Bad

Bono’s yellow card. If it had been red, things would have turned out differently for Toronto… Altidore looking tired and overmatched at times… TFC’s lack of concentration late in the first half… TFC’s lack of motivation in the second half… Vanney’s shirt. After three wins in a row, it’s made its way up from ‘ugly’. Question: if it rains in Seattle on Saturday, will natural raindrops enhance the shirt’s power?... Altidore’s petulant display leading to his yellow card… no Will Johnson. An unknown illness? Conspiracy Theorist has his doubts. Perhaps Will was watching the game with Chris Mavinga… what happened to TSN’s nifty camera angle from the north end? It provided a pleasant view during the Houston match. It needs to return on May 13th…why was Eriq Zavaleta on the left side of the pitch when Kaka scored? If he stayed on the right, he could have easily marked the Brazilian.

The Ugly

Michael Bradley’s yellow card for dissent after the game was over. What did he say to the ref?! Why did he say it?! The game was over, and the ref wasn’t nearly as harsh on TFC as he could have been... Larin’s misses. As much as Bono gets credit for his perseverance, Larin needs to finish those chances. It was like his feet were made of putty… Carlos Rivas’ free-kick early in the second half. I think that he was aiming at one of the Inebriatti banners… TSN’s on-field microphone placement. Repeatedly hearing individual comments from screechy fans is irritating.
