Rate the Reds: Jay Chapman shines on first Toronto FC start of 2017

You picked the young Canadian as your man of the match against the Seattle Sounders.

First Raheem Edwards, now Jay Chapman.

Toronto FC’s two most promising young Canadians both look to have taken strides at this early stage in the 2017 season, with Chapman ousting Benoit Cheyrou, Jozy Altidore and Nick Hagglund to be voted your man of the match against the Seattle Sounders.

The 23-year-old was a joy to watch at CenturyLink Field, threading multiple passes through to Altidore and showing patience and intelligence in possession that belied his lack of experience in the kind of environment he found himself in on Saturday.

Cheyrou - 13 years Chapman’s senior - was much the same and showed no signs of fatigue despite getting through 90 minutes of an MLS game for the first time since September. Altidore was colossal on his own up front, scoring Toronto’s only goal, while Nick Hagglund filled yet another position in the defensive line and delivered a near-flawless display.

As you would expect, not many downvotes were handed out.
