The Italian still has some muscle tightness to shake off.

Toronto FC will have Jozy Altidore back on Saturday against the New York Red Bulls.

Sebastian Giovinco, however, may need more rest to shake off some quad tightness as the MLS playoffs loom on the horizon.

“We’re building [Altidore] up towards [Saturday],” Greg Vanney said at training today, per Sportsnet’s John Molinaro.

“It seems so [that Altidore will be able to play versus New York]. We have three more training sessions to go, but the way he is moving around and trending, it looks like he’ll be ready to go.”

Giovinco is not training fully and will be monitored as the week progresses, Vanney added.

That’s a little bit troubling: giving Seba a couple of weeks off could simply be chalked up as pre-playoff rest, but this suggests there actually is a muscle problem to be dealt with.

I know that sounds strange to say given it’s been described as that this entire time, but there seemed to be a hint of planning about the way TFC’s two star strikers, both of whom have an injury history, were given time off simultaneously.

In better news, Benoit Cheyrou and Nick Hagglund are back in full training and will have plenty of time in which to get their fitness levels up for the playoffs.

That just leaves Jason Hernandez (hamstring) on the sidelines, and he is expected to return to training this week.
