MLS has announced the structure of this year’s expansion draft, where FC Cincinnati will attempt to fill out their roster ahead of their jump from USL to the top flight. It'll take place December 11, but Toronto FC fans need not fret: the Reds are exempt from this year’s draft.
Since TFC lost Raheem Edwards to LAFC in last year's selection, they (along with the four other clubs who lost players to LAFC — the Seattle Sounders, San Jose Earthquakes, Columbus Crew SC and Sporting Kansas City) will watch from the sidelines this year. LAFC and Cincinnati are considered part of the same expansion cycle, meaning teams can only lose one player.
Cincinnati will pick five players from the remaining clubs, including LAFC. Of course, they can't take more than one player per team.
