There wasn’t a lot to be happy about from Saturday’s Toronto FC season opener against the Columbus Crew. That’s probably why only seven TFC players ended up in the black in our Rate the Reds poll.
The Reds were shut out 2-0, so there are no goalscorers to give a free upvote to. Nor did they keep a clean sheet, which would’ve boosted Alex Bono and the defenders’ scores.
Instead, it looks like this game’s ratings took chances and flashes of quality into account, which is probably why it still prioritizes the attacking players for the most part.
Jonathan Osorio is your man of the match, after putting in another solid performance — although perhaps not as good as his work in the first leg against Colorado. His high rating might be a little controversial, though...
Anyway, he sits on top. Nicolas Hasler was rated well too, despite only coming on as a sub fairly near the end and not having much to do. Sebastian Giovinco got a decent score as well, making him one of TFC’s most consistently well-ranked players three games into 2018.
Debutant Gregory van der Wiel is ninth, and Ager Aketxe comes fourth in his first start for TFC.
Rounding out the bottom of the table is Eriq Zavaleta, who lost his man and got frozen up on Gyasi Zardes’ goal.
Here are the rankings in full.
