Rate the Reds: Altidore on top after two-goal performance

Everyone’s positive this week.

MLS: Real Salt Lake at Toronto FC Nick Turchiaro-USA TODAY Sports

Toronto FC got back on track in MLS on Friday, beating Real Salt Lake 3-1 at BMO Field. So, too, did Jozy Altidore, who scored a first-half brace to put the Reds up by two at halftime. For that, he’s the man of the match from TFC’s first MLS win of 2018.

This is Jozy’s first appearance at the top of the Rate the Reds poll this year, after a few rough goes to begin the season. He’s actually finished last twice, in the Concacaf opener in Colorado and in Montreal last weekend.

Everyone came out in the black this week, though. Gregory van der Wiel finished second after an excellent appearance at centre-back, and Ashtone Morgan took fifth for his second solid performance in a row.

At the bottom of the list is Marky Delgado (sorry, Oli). He had a quiet, fairly uneventful game; I didn’t think he did anything egregiously wrong save for a couple weird passes, but I suppose a lot of other players had more memorable performances. That might be why he’s still got a positive score.

I’m a little surprised at how low Clint Irwin is on the list, but that may be just because there were so many top performances that he had to be forced down to 11th.
