The Reds announced today that they’ve handed an MLS contract to Toronto FC II player Alan Mariano Miño. The 5’3” Argentine midfielder made his USL debut with TFC II on Wednesday in their 0-0 draw with North Carolina FC, and he stood out immediately as one of the Young Reds’ best players.
Miño came to TFC II this season after playing briefly for Sud América in the Uruguayan first division. He also spent last year with Boca Unidos of Argentina’s Primera B Nacional, scoring three goals.
TFC also announced that taking Miño’s spot on the USL team for a brief spell will be Mitchell Taintor, who they’ve brought into TFC II on loan from Sacramento Republic FC. Taintor played most of last season with TFC II, captaining the side in 2017.
Miño may be in contention to play for TFC against the Houston Dynamo tomorrow afternoon. The squad is expected to be a heavily rotated outfit, with a lot of talent from TFC II filling out the lineup sheet, and Miño could fit the bill perfectly. TFC struggled in midfield last weekend against the Colorado Rapids, and Miño could definitely help get the ball moving a little bit.
As for Taintor, there’s no word yet on how long his loan spell is going to be. TFC II play the Richmond Kickers next Wednesday, he could possibly appear then.
