Last night might have been the first truly concerning result of the season for Toronto FC. Every other slip up along the way, for the most part, can be chalked up to injuries, fatigue and the CONCACAF Champions League campaign.
But last night Toronto played a Seattle team that was just as hurt as they were and still couldn’t get a result, coming up short 2-1 at home. Is it time to start worrying a little bit especially since a number of these less-than-stellar results are coming at home?
Mitchell Tierney discusses this and more with Dan Riccio of Sportsnet 650 Vancouver, the former host of TFC Pitchside, on this week’s edition of the Footy Talks podcast. The pair also reluctantly dives into VAR, and the difficulties that it has presented for Toronto FC and the league this season.
They also update Toronto’s injury situation and the continued issues that the Reds are going to have with a team that is not completely healthy while they try to keep themselves in the playoff race. Jozy Altidore’s injury, evidently, creates some issues.
With Dan now being on the west coast, the pair also discuss the Vancouver Whitecaps. Despite Vancouver’s decent record this season, trouble is definitely brewing under the surface. They also talk about Canadians Alphonso Davies and Brett Levis, who have both been putting together solid seasons despite the issues in Vancouver.
Finally, the show wraps up with some talk about the El Clasico match this past weekend, and the CanPL from a west coast perspective as Surrey looks to be joining the league for its inaugural season.
