Rate the Reds: Chris Mavinga positive in sub appearance

The defender looked good in his return to the pitch.

The weekend did not go at all as Toronto FC planned, with a 3-2 loss at Gillette Stadium to the New England Revolution adding another painful memory to a rough week in TFC fandom. The Reds were down pretty much from the get-go, and as a result they were chasing the game for about 85 minutes.

The fan voting wasn’t particularly kind to many of the TFC players. Only six finished with a positive overall rating, and some of those were only by a hair. The man of the match is Chris Mavinga, who played about half an hour in relief of Ager Aketxe. Mavinga made his return to the lineup after a lengthy absence due to injury, so it was good to see a defender of his quality back on the pitch.

Auro, Victor Vazquez, and Jonathan Osorio round out the TFC players who received decidedly positive ratings in the poll. Ryan Telfer and Sebastian Giovinco also ended up in the black, but by the slimmest of margins. Seba’s performance was a pretty polarizing one; he looked great in the half hour he played, but he took a brainless red card after scoring a penalty and now faces a suspension for Friday.

Anyway, here’s a look at where the RtR leaderboard stands now. Telfer continues to climb out of the negatives, and Tosaint Ricketts sinks further.

And here are the full rankings from Saturday’s game:

1. Chris Mavinga +162
2. Auro +143
3. Jonathan Osorio +115
4. Victor Vazquez +113
5. Ryan Telfer +7
