I’m sure Toronto FC would have liked to have dealt with their business in a smooth manner. With the way this offseason has gone, the smoother they could have brought Alejandro Pozuelo into the fold the better.

Well, as has been the case it seems ever since Tim Bezbatchenko decided to leave around Christmas time, nothing is going quite to plan for Toronto FC. With a potential legal dispute looming with the player’s current club Genk, it could be a while, if ever, before the Spaniard suits up for the club.

This all makes life very complicated for a club who are just a week away from starting their 2019 season with an away date in the Concacaf Champions League. A game that on paper once looked like a very winnable start to the tournament is no longer quite as easy.

The chaos surrounding the club right now was discussed at length on this week’s Footy Talks podcast. For the first time ever, the podcast was a roundtable with Waking the Red writers including Benedict Rhodes, Jeffrey P. Nesker and Tej Sahota.

Other topics discussed on the show included some in-depth information on Jozy Altidore’s injury situation, who we see the club using as Jozy’s replacement for the time being and which youngster could see big minutes this year.
