Recap: Two quick goals sink Toronto FC in Seattle

Another top performance from Altidore and Pozuelo, though.

Toronto FC couldn’t quite pull it out on the road this afternoon, as they fell 3-2 at CenturyLink Field to the Seattle Sounders, after allowing a pair of rapid-fire goals midway through the second half.

It started out well, with Jozy Altidore putting TFC on the board first just 11 minutes in. He nodded in a strong header off of a lovely lobbed cross from the edge of the box by Alejandro Pozuelo.

The Sounders managed to withstand the rest of TFC’s early pressure, though, and soon after they started to push forward. Will Bruin put his side level about 15 minutes after the opener with a diving header that almost fell on his head from a perfect cross.

Things petered out a bit toward the later stages of the half, with neither team particularly dangerous.

The second frame, though, was a different story. It started slow, but Seattle turned on the jets in the blink of an eye. Bruin got on the end of a Brad Smith cross in the 68th minute, and just 120 seconds later, Cristian Roldan looped it over Quentin Westberg from the corner of the box to make it 3-1.

Jozy Altidore struck again with about 20 minutes left on the clock. Pozuelo picked him out nicely (this is not a recording), and Altidore managed to get the step and finish perfect to roll it in off the far post.

That second goal wasn’t enough, though. TFC had a couple of fairly ineffective chances down the stretch, but they weren’t able to find that equalizer. Ultimately, they’ll be disappointed not to have won after taking such an early lead, but the quality of play wasn’t bad against a top side in MLS.

The Altidore-Pozuelo pairing was absolutely lethal again, which is a good sign. Westberg had some great moments and a few iffy ones, but his confidence with the ball at his feet seemed good. The defending certainly left a lot to be desired, unfortunately. Laurent Ciman, especially, missed his marker on a few occasions.

So. Thoughts? Are you upset? Looking at the positives?
